river_of_eternityPhilip José Farmer’s classic novel sequence Riverworld was originally entered into a contest ran by Shasta Press and Pocket Books entitled Owe for the flesh where he won 1st place, winning no money and the work was never publish and subsequently lost. Later, Farmer reworked the story and and re-titled it River of Eternity, but, again, the work went unpublished at the time and was thought lost until a copy surfaced in 1983.
