It’s official, there will be a Ghostbusters III. Not only that, it is already in production with shooting slated to start this fall. All of the previous characters from the first two movies have reportedly signed on to do Ghostbusters III, with the exception of Rick Moranis who retired from acting in 2001.

What many Ghostbusters fans may not know about the first movie is that Dan Aykroyd wrote the initial screenplay with specific actors in mind, notably Eddie Murphy, John Candy, and John Belushi. All hopes of having them star in the movie were dashed when Belushi died from a drug overdose while the script was being written and Murphy and Candy were unable to commit to doing the movie siting obligations to other acting roles.

Ah, what could have been.
